where the salmon come alive
stood tall a rotten apple tree
bearing the fruit of life
came along a stubborn soul
born of endless greed
who fixed a ladder of timbered planks
but for a morsel to eat
adventuring up the rickety wreck
teetering tottering forth
but behold one leg snaps in two
leaving but the other to hold
hurries the fool up the steps
chancing on a branch to grab
precariously swaying round and round
while stable to unstable met
one hand left to fling about
an inch but yet to far
waiting thus for the apple fall
'fore hunger death and dusk shall past
in a lone patch down by the silver creek
where the salmon come alive
stood tall a rotten apple tree
bearing the fruit of life
came along a stubborn soul
born of endless greed
who fixed a ladder of timbered planks
but for a morsel to eat
adventuring up the rickety wreck
teetering tottering forth
but behold one leg snaps in two
leaving but the other to hold
hurries the fool up the steps
chancing on a branch to grab
precariously swaying round and round
while stable to unstable met
one hand left to fling about
an inch but yet to far
waiting thus for the apple fall
'fore hunger death and dusk shall past
