Venus & Sun
8 Jun 2004
The planet Venus transits across the Sun on June 8th, 2004. This is one of the rarest of astronomical events -- no one alive today has seen a transit of Venus since the last such event was in 1882.
The beginning of the transit can be seen from all of Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and most of Africa. The Sun sets while the transit is in progress for the eastern portion of Asia, all of Indonesia, and Australia. Finally, the transit is already in progress when the Sun rises for the eastern US and Canada, the Caribbean, and most of South America.
The transit is not visible at all from the western US, Mexico, southwestern British Columbia, southern Chile and Argentina, the South Pacific and New Zealand.
