yeahterday, the tôt came to my mind that, since a large proportion of Singaporeans emigrated here, like all the history they teach us, so perhaps that says something about the people. Perhaps it's a bottleneck effect, perhaps all the ?resourceful, ?hardworking, ?desperate, ?adventurous, ?dare-to-leave-home, ?willing-to-sacrifice people were the ones who chose to leave China, leave other countries, and travel to Singapura/Temasek/whatever, to find work, to seek money, wealth, better life, adventure, dreams. Perhaps we actively selected for those genes. us? who did it. but perhaps i could hypothesize that it happened. and so, that leads to the Singapore today, with citizens who are less strongly rooted in culture but more attracted towards adventure, wealth, progress, advancement, who are more willing to sacrifice for the promise of another future, who are more keen on enterprises, on globalisation, on delocalisation, on emigration. Perhaps these very qualities make Singapore so easily adaptable, so malleable, so successful. And at the same time make it so hard to maintain and keep together as an identity. Perhaps.
